Sekiguchi, T., & Higgins, C. A. “Person-group fit: A dynamic model.”

While the majority of research on person-environment fit (e.g., person-vocation fit, person-organization fit) is from a static viewpoint, this paper proposes a dynamic process of person-group (P-G) fit wherein a newcomer's initial misfit with a group results in one of two behavioral responses: influence or adjustment. We also examine incumbent group members' reactions to the new member's attempt to resolve initial levels of misfit. Finally, our model proposes that interactions between the newcomer and incumbent members who experience initial person-group misfit result in individual and/or group changes, which will or will not increase group effectiveness and member satisfaction. Implications and future research directions to better understand the dynamic nature of P-E fit are discussed.

Higgins, C. A., Harman, W. S., Sekiguchi, T., & Esseln, D. E. “The effect of organizational familiarity, reputation, and selection Processe difficulty on applicant attraction.”

The current study examines the moderating effects of applicant quality and job search anxiety on the relationships between applicant attraction and organizational familiarity, reputation, and selection process difficulty. Our results suggest that familiarity, reputation, and selection process difficulty each have significant effects on applicant attraction in the broad applicant population. Additional analyses found that higher quality applicants were more sensitive to familiarity and reputation information than were lower quality applicants, indicating that organizational familiarity and reputation have the potential to affect not only the size, but also the quality, of the applicant pool. It was also found that applicants with higher job search anxiety are less sensitive to reputation information. Implications and future research are discussed.
